Police were called in to remove Bayern Munich trio Thiago Alcantara, Robert Lewandowski and Arturo Vidal from referee Viktor Kassai’s dressing room after the German club’s 4-2 (6-3 aggregate loss) to Real Madrid in the quarter-final clash of the Uefa Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday.
According to a report in El Chiringuito (via calciomercato.com), the three were protesting Arturo Vidal’s sending off and Cristiano Ronaldo’s two offside goals, that resulted in Bayern’s exit at the quarter-final stage after extra-time of the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Vidal was shown a red card in the 84th-minute after a second yellow. With the aggregate scores tied at 3-3 after 90 minutes, the game moved into extra-time where Bayern conceded three goals, including two contentious goals by Ronaldo who completed a hat-trick.
“This robbery cannot happen in the Champions League, it was clearly noticeable and it starts to make you doubt [the game] a bit,” Vidal fumed after the match. “We wanted to qualify and this gives us a lot of rage, that a match of such intensity can be decided by the referee. He was very wrong and that has knocked us out of Europe.”
