Bengaluru FC registered their third successive win of the AFC Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win against Bangladesh’s Abahani Limited Dhaka at the Kanteerava Stadium on Monday with goals from Nishu Kumar and Marjan Jugovic.
The 2016 finalists remained at the top of the table in a group that also features domestic rivals Mohun Bagan.
Lenny Rodrigues, Seminlen Doungel and Eugenson Lyngdoh’s direct runs were creating plenty of problems for the Abahani backline during the early stages of the game. However, the home side were bereft of ideas in front of goal for much of the first half. Albert Roca’s side broke the deadlock in the 40th minute of the game. It was a neat pass from Daniel Lalhlimpuia that set up Nishu Kumar’s neat finish, his first for the club.
Bengaluru allowed the visitors a sniff in the second half but Abahani couldn’t test the opposition defence. After a laboured passage of play, Bengaluru’s changes refreshed their attack. skipper Sunil Chhetri, who went missing for much of the game, set up substitute Jugovic, who lobbed the ball into the net with seven minutes left on the clock.
Brief score:
- Bengaluru FC 2 (Nishu Kumar, Marjan Jugovic) beat Abahani Dhaka 0
