A parliamentary panel’s recommendation to make Hindi compulsory up to Class 10 in schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, including the Kendriya Vidyalayas, has received President Pranab Mukherjee’s assent, PTI reported on Tuesday.
The proposal has got Mukherjee’s “in-principle” approval, reported Hindustan Times. The Union Human Resources Department has been asked to form a policy to make Hindi compulsory till Class 10 in consultation with the state governments. “The ministry should make serious efforts to make Hindi language compulsory in the curriculum. As a first step, Hindi should be made a compulsory subject up to Class 10 in all schools of CBSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan,” the Presidential order said.
The recommendations were made in the ninth report of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language.
