India’s B Sai Praneeth romped into the Singapore Open final with a commanding performance against South Korea’s Lee Dong Keun on Saturday. Playing in his first Superseries final, the 24-year-old Praneeth was in brilliant touch, needing only 38 minutes to beat the World No 35 Keun 21-6, 21-8 in straight games.
Praneeth got off to a blazing start, crushing everything Keun threw at him to take a commanding 10-0 lead. The Korean shuttler only got his first point when Praneeth was 11 points up and he had no answer to the 24-year-old from Hyderabad’s attack as the World No 30 took the first game 21-6.
But Keun couldn’t find any way back even in the second game as Praneeth showed no signs of nervousness in his first ever Superseries semi-final, romping to a 9-1 lead and going up 11-4. Any chances of a fightback were quickly crushed by Praneeth as he reeled off points at the end to take the set 21-8 and with it, the match.
India’s Kidambi Srikanth will play Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the other semi-final in the men’s singles draw.
