India’s Kidambi Srikanth on Thursday joined compatriots PV Sindhu and B Sai Praneeth in the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open Super Series.
The 24-year-old came from a game down to beat Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia 18-21, 21-19, 22-20 in a match that lasted 81 minutes.
It was a closely-fought contest, with both players fighting tooth and nail. The Indian was at the receiving end in the first game, and was edged out 18-21. He rallied back into the contest with a fine performance in the second game to send the tie into the decider.
In the third game, Srikanth survived three match points before breaking back to win 22-20.
Srikanth next faces fifth seed Shi Yuqi of China, who had defeated Ajay Jayaram in the first round.
Earlier, PV Sindhu had advanced after beating Indonesia’s Fitriani in a come from behind 9-21, 21-17, 21-8 victory.
The 22-year-old will face Olympic champion Carolina Marin in the last-eight after the Spaniard beat Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hsin Lee 21-7, 21-11.
Meanwhile, Praneeth beat China’s Qiao Bin 21-15, 21-23, 21-16 to move to the next round.
