Kidambi Srikanth cruised to a comfortable 21-12, 21-11 win over Japan’s unseeded Kenta Nishimoto on Wednesday to enter round two of the Singapore Open. The Hyderabad shuttler will now face either Indonesia’s Ihsan Maulana Mustofa or Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tzu-wei.
After enjoying a fairytale run in the Malaysian Open, Ajay Jayaram’s journey in the tournament came to a premature end, losing to China’s Yuqi Shi in straight games 16-21, 7-21 in the first round. In the women’s doubles, new pair Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy showed their prowess in a fighting 21-19 21-19 win over Malaysian combo of Yin Loo Lim and Yap Cheng Wen, reported PTI.
Mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankirteddy and Maneesha K, however, lost 13-21 21-16 11-21 to Lu Ching Yao and Chiang Kai Hsin of Chinese Taipei. The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy suffered a 8-21 16-21 defeat to Japanese duo Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda.
