Seventeen-year-old Washington Sundar has named as the replacement for the injured Ravichandran Ashwin in the Rising Pune Supergiant squad, according to a Times of India report on Thursday.
“I’m feeling really excited to see this new world,” Sundar was quoted as saying. “Ashwin is a legend and getting a chance to be part of the team in place of him is a big thing for me. After getting this opportunity, I have gained more belief in my hard work .”
A left-hand batsman who also bowls right-arm off-break, the 17-year-old has played only five first-class matches and nine List A matches but was part of India’s U-19 team which lost in the final of the World Cup last year. He was part of the title-winning Albert TUTI Patriots in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and also played in the Vijay Hazare and the Deodhar Trophy.
Sundar will replace Ravichandran Ashwin who has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to sports hernia.
