Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner, on Wednesday, praised Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan for his impressive Indian Premier League debut, terming him a “fantastic prospect”. The 18-year-old struck in his first over, and finished with figures of 2/36 in his four overs, reported PTI.
Rashid Khan became the first player from Afghanistan to appear in the IPL. At 18 years 197 days he is the second youngest overseas player to make his IPL debut, after Mitchell Marsh who was 18 years 170 days old on his IPL debut.
Rashid was brought into the attack when Bangalore were cruising. He dismissed the well-set Mandeep Singh, who chopped on, and also removed the dangerous Travis Head.
“Oh he was fantastic. He has the talent and seems to be a fantastic prospect for Afghanistan cricket. It was fantastic the manner in which the guys batted through the middle. We got to see the Yuvi [Yuvraj Singh] of the old we know,” Warner said, on his team’s performance.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s stand-in skipper Shane Watson admitted that they were outplayed. He stated that with so many key players out, the side were still searching their combinations, “All aspects, we were slightly off. We weren’t as tight. Sunrisers got pretty much the same combinations, we are still finding ours. Last man standing, but it’s a privilege to lead RCB. The wicket was slow but very nice (batting)“ the Australian veteran said.
