Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils, who are yet to take the field, have been hit by an injury crisis among their overseas players. The latest to join that ever-increasing list is Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews who is yet to recover from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of cricket since January. According to ESPNCricinfo on Sunday, Mathews will miss Sri Lanka’s upcoming Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh and is unlikely to be fit for the start of the IPL.
Mathews’s recovery was further delayed by a calf strain. “At this stage I think I can say Angelo will not play the T20s,” said Sri Lanka Cricket manager Asanka Gurusinha. “The IPL will be affected because he has to wait for the physio and the trainer to give him the green light. He has to be 100% fit. Angelo has to make that call with the physio, because if he’s not 100% fit, we will not let him go.”
The Sri Lankan left-hander’s injury woes have added to an injury crisis for the Delhi Daredevils. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock availability is already in doubt owing to an injury while teammate JP Duminy also pulled out of the tenth season due to personal reasons.
