Arsenal showed spirit and drive which was lacking in them during recent weeks as the Gunners earned a creditable 2-2 draw at the Emirates against Manchester City.

Their task was cut out when Leroy Sane broke the deadlock as early as the seventh minute of the game with a crisp finish. The fleet-footed German winger raced past the Arsenal defence, rounded keeper David Ospina and slotted the ball home.

City came out guns blazing but the home side soon found their footing in the contest, and equalised through Theo Walcott. The Englishman cleverely beat the offside trap to sneak the ball into the net.

The London side’s joy was short-lived as Sergio Aguero equalised just two minutes later with a shot from the far post. Ospina and the Arsenal defence, though, should have dealt with the attack as they were carved open by David Silva’s pass.

In the second half, the Gunners pinned City in their own half for long spells in the contest. The momentum shift came through Shkodran Mustafi’s header from a corner in the 50th minute. Arsenal’s full-backs, Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin stretched play and looked good to grab the winner.

City had a chance of their own from a cross, but Fernandinho couldn’t get the ball into the net as the Arsenal defence regrouped in time. Manchester City are at fourth with 58 points from 29 games while Arsene Wenger’s side remain sixth after earning 51 points from 28 outings.
