World No 1 Andy Murray, who had earlier withdrawn from the Miami Open with an injury, is said to have suffered a tear to his right elbow, according to a report in The Telegraph. Murray will need a month-and-a-half for his elbow to fully heal and as a result, has been forced out of Great Britain’s Davis Cup quarter-final tie against France, to be hosted by the latter in Rouen from April 7 to 9.

“It’s some sort of tear in his elbow. He said he can do everything except serve and he told me rest was all he had to do,” Jamie Murray, his brother and fellow Great Britain player was quoted as saying.

Murray has had been constantly troubled by ill health this season. He was diagnosed with shingles after his fourth round ouster at the Australian Open. Furthermore, according to his elder sibling, he had also suffered a bout of flu after having announced his decision to skip the Miami Open.

“He has had shingles and [now] he has had his elbow. He was sick here [in Miami] as well with flu for two or three days after he pulled out of the tournament. I think he just needs to get a bit settled and get a good crack at it over the next three months because there’s a lot of big tournaments to play,” Jamie said.

The three-time Grand Slam champion is now expected to rejoin the Tour during the clay season, most likely at the Madrid Open to be held from May 5 to 14. The Monte Carlo Masters’ player list, however, features his name as an entrant along with that of Novak Djokovic, who had also pulled out of Miami and currently recuperating from a right elbow injury.
