The Board of Control for Cricket in India has given a 50% salary hike to the Indian team’s assistant coaches. Batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar, who were reportedly earning Rs 10 lakh per month (excluding the two-month Indian Premier League window) will now see their salary swell up to Rs 15 lakh, reported the Indian Express.
The report added that head coach Anil Kumble had held talks with BCCI’s Committee of Administrators over the matter. Earlier in the month, the support staff rejected the board’s offer of a 25% salary hike stating that it was well below their expectations. On Wednesday, the CoA announced a 100% raise for the centrally contracted Indian players.
“There are no contracts for the support staff and their salaries had not been increased for the past two years,” an unnamed official was quoted as saying. “If they can double the pay in the players’ annual contracts, the CoA felt that the support staff too deserved at least a 50% hike.”
The previous lot of administrators, led by former BCCI President Anurag Thakur, had reportedly promised the support staff that that they would look into the matter. However, the staff were left in limbo after the Supreme Court ordered the Thakur regime to vacate their positions earlier in the year.
