The Indian challenge at the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold came to an end on Friday after defending champion HS Prannoy and fourth seeded mixed doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy lost their matches.
Prannoy was knocked out in men’s singles quarter-finals after straight-game 19-21, 11-21 loss to China’s Shi Yuqi, who has has beaten Lin Dan last week, on his way to the All England final.
Fifth-seeded Prannoy had earlier beaten Yuqi at the Badminton Asia Team Championships last year, however the Chinese second seed played well to overcome the former champion in Switzerland, reported PTI.
The 21-year-old Chinese got a slim lead at 11-9 lead in the opening game, before Prannoy surged ahead to 18-13. But Yuqi pulled his way back into the game to win 19-21. In the second game, Yuqi was even more dominant as he broke off at 7-7 to pile up the points and take a simple win to secure a semi-final berth.
In the mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy went down 19-21, 17-21 to fifth seeded Chinese duo of Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui.
