International Cricket Council Chairperson Shashank Manohar on Wednesday resigned from his post with immediate effect. In his resignation letter addressed to ICC CEO David Richardson, Manohar said he was quitting for personal reasons.
The 59-year-old was ICC’s first independent chairman, not affiliated to any of its member boards. “I have tried to do my best and have tried to be fair and impartial in deciding matters in the functioning of the board...However, for personal reasons, it is not possible for me to hold the august office of ICC chairman,” reads the letter, according to India Today.
Manohar, who had served two terms as the chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, was elected to the ICC chairperson’s post unopposed in May 2016. He had signed a two-year contract with the international cricketing body after quitting as BCCI president.
