Investment banker Ankur Verma on Tuesday joined the Tata Sons’ chairman’s office. Verma, who was a managing director at Bank of America, is the first major outside recruit since Natarajan Chandrasekaran took over as chairman of the group, according to Bloomberg.
A company official, who did not want to be named, told Bloomberg that Verma has joined the Tata group as a senior vice president. The investment banker was Bank of America’s head of India for technology, media and telecommunications as well as oil and gas.
Verma holds a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Before that, he studied mechanical engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. The Tata group said Verma will bring “extensive experience in the areas of corporate planning, strategy, investment banking and mergers and acquisitions”.
Chandrasekaran, who took charge as the Tata Sons chairperson on February 21, is expected to turn around the firm’s fortune. Chandrasekaran is the first non-Parsi to be appointed to the top post at Tata Sons.
