A Bharatiya Janata Party member Kithaganahalli Vasu was hacked to death on Tuesday morning by unidentified attackers in Bengaluru, ANI reported. He was a member of the Bommasandra Municipal council and his wife was a Zilla Panchayat member.

Hundreds of workers protests on Tuesday afternoon and blocked traffic on the busy Hosur Road. Karnataka Special Reserve Police personnel were also deployed, and some workers were detained by the police, The Hindu reported.

Vasu, alias Srinivas Prasad, left his home at 5.30 am after he received a call, reported Deccan Herald. The assailants stoned his vehicle on Hosur Road forcing him to stop his car. Vasu was pulled out of the car and attacked in Bengaluru’s Surya City Police station limits, the report added. He died on the spot.

The police reached the site of the attack after they were alerted by highway patrol staff. They found him dead in a truck stand near Bommasandra BTM college. A case of murder was registered against unknown people at Hebbagudi police station, The News Minute reported. The motive for murder was not clear as some reports suggested it was political rivalry while some said a land dispute had triggered it.

Union Minister Ananth Kumar condemned the incident and said the Karnataka government should act on it. BJP Karnataka president BS Yeddyurappa said, “This once again proves the death of law and order under Congress rule.”

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh media coordinator for Karnataka, Rajesh Padmar also demanded a probe into the case. He said the Siddaramaiah government should take strong steps to stop any kind of politically-motivated killings, PTI reported.

An RSS worker had been hacked to death in Bengaluru in October 2016, which had triggered protests by BJP and RSS workers across the city. Padmar said in the last two years, more than 10 activists belonging to either RSS, VHP or BJP have been killed. “It is a dangerous development in a democratic set-up,” he told PTI.
