SSP Chawrasia became only the second Indian player after Anirban Lahiri to defend the Indian Open title with a seven stroke win at Gurgaon on Sunday, reported PTI.
This was Chawrasia’s fourth win on the European tour and sixth international victory overall. He finished at 10 under-par 278, seven strokes ahead of second place Gavin Green of Malaysia, and eight ahead of Scott Jamieson of Scotland in third.
Chawrasia landed two consecutive bogeys at the sixth and seventh holes, but the Spaniard too dropped a shot at the seventh. The Indian then fired two back-to-back birdies to grab a five-stroke advantage.
Former champion Anirban Lahiri, on the other hand, carded an identical round to Chawrasia and finished nine strokes adrift of the champion. He struck five birdies against four bogeys to turn in a one-under card to share the fifth spot.
