South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, on Sunday, stated he was surprised that the International Cricket Council decided to not penalise India and Australia after the DRS controversy that unfolded during the Bengaluru Test, reported PTI.

Du Plessis compared the incident – where Australia captain Steve Smith glanced at his dressing room after being ruled out leg before – to his own ordeal down under earlier in the year,

“I was (surprised), yes. Purely from the reason of what I went through in Australia for something I feel was a lot smaller, so (am) surprised with it,” Du Plessis said. The 32-year-old was suspended for one Test after being found guilty of using chewing gum to wipe the ball.

Du Plessis stated that he was treated very harshly, “Definitely it was different. I’m surprised by the way it happened. Maybe it’s because I speak on a personal point of view and felt I was treated very harsh. When you see something like that you’d hope it (the treatment) would be exactly the same,” Du Plessis added.

The India and Australia cricket boards fired salvos against each other after the second Border-Gavaskar Test. India skipper Virat Kohli stopped short of calling the visitors cheats and the Board of Control for Cricket in India lodged a complaint with the ICC.

“When you play teams like India and Australia obviously that can happen and it’s easy for something like that to blow up. For me, it’s just been good to be on the other side of it this time and see how things unfold,” the Proteas skipper said.
