India’s Rohan Bopanna and his partner Pablo Cuevas were eliminated from the BNP Paribas Open after losing to the Serbian duo of Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki in their men’s doubles round-of-32 clash in Indian Wells on Saturday. Bopanna and Cuevas lost 2-6, 6-3 (10-7) at the 1000 Masters event.
Bopanna and his Uruguayan partner were the favourites to win the encounter and were on course after they bagged the first set 2-6. However, the Serbs staged a brilliant comeback to take the second set 6-3 and send the match into a decisive tie-break. The Indo-Uruguayan duo were up 4-2 in the tie-break when the Serbs upped the ante to win it 10-7 and, in the process also won the match.
Earlier, India’s Sania Mirza and her doubles partner Barbora Strycova of Czech Republic entered the second round of the Indian Wells as they beat German-Latvian duo of Julia Goerges and Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-4.
