Indian Premier League side Kings XI Punjab on Friday announced Glenn Maxwell as their new captain for the upcoming Twenty20 season. The Australian will take over the captaincy reins from Murali Vijay, who captained the side last season along with South Africa’s David Miller. Punjab finished at the bottom of the table season with four wins in 14 games.
Maxwell made his IPL debut with Delhi Daredevils in 2012 and then moved to Mumbai Indians in 2013. In 2015, he went to Punjab and since then become an integral part of the squad. That season he hit more than 550 runs and took his team into the final, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Considered one of the most devastating all-rounders in the world, he struck a 56-ball century against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the 2015 World Cup.
