India’s Yuki Bhambri beat fifth seed and world number 147 Blaz Kavcic in straight sets to move into the singles quarter-finals of Zhuhai Challenger on Thursday. The unseeded Indian beat the Serbian 6-1, 6-4 in a match lasted for an hour and 14 minutes, reported PTI.
Bhambri, ranked 341 in the world, faces Argentina’s Agustin Velotti, ranked 190, in the last eight. The Indian broke his opponent five times in the match and lost his serve only once. “I stayed solid and served well,” Bhambri said. “I went for my shots when it was possible. I had good two wins and I am hoping to get more.”
Earlier, Bhambri and Chennai Open winner Jeeven Nedunchezhiyan crashed out of the first round in the doubles event.
