India’s men’s doubles pair Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy crashed out in the first round of the All England Badminton Superseries in Birmingham on Wednesday. The duo lost to England’s Peter Briggs and Tom Wolfenden 19-21, 21-10, 18-21.
The Indian duo fought hard in the first game, but lost by a narrow 19-21 margin. The Indians, though, bounced back strongly in the second and cruised to a 21-10 win to take the tie to the decider. The third game was also a closely contested battle but yet again. The Englishmen though managed to hold their nerve and take the game with a 21-18 margin and seal victory.
Meanwhile, India’s highest-ranked women’s doubles pair of Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram also bowed out in the first round, losing to Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Ya Ching and Wu Ti Jung 19-21, 12-21 in 31 minutes. This was the pair’s first appearance at a Superseries Premier event.
