The Indian team management on Wednesday filed a written complaint with ICC match referee Chris Broad over the Decision Review System controversy involving Australia skipper Steve Smith, NDTV reported.
Umpires had intervened after Smith was seen seeking help from the dressing room as he contemplated taking a DRS referral after being caught leg-before wicket on day four of the second Test in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Broad will have two days to ponder over the allegations and ascertain whether they hold water.
While, India went on to win the match by 75 runs, the controversy erupted after India skipper Virat Kohli alleged during the post-match press conference that Australia had repeatedly used the ploy before calling for a DRS referral. According to ICC guidelines, a call on DRS has to be taken on the field and not help should be sought from the dressing room.
Smith later termed the episode as a “brain fade”, adding that he should not have done it. Australia coach Darren Lehmann has dismissed the claims, while Cricket Australia chairman James Suntherland called the allegations ‘outrageous’.
