DSK Shivajians earned a point in the second minute of stoppage time through a Shane McFaul equaliser against Chennai City at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.

The feisty contest saw its first goal come from Chennai’s Fakhruddin Amiri two minutes before the half-time whistle. On the other side of the break, the away side flooded the Chennai area with a flurry of attacks, especially during the last 15 minutes of the game.

It was the home side who had the measure of their opponents in the first half, and were dangerous on the counter-attack. Charles de Souza was a menace with his back facing the goal and S Nandakumar provided good industry with his runs.

Chennai’s ploy backfired in the second half, and Shivajians grew in confidence with their attacks. Juan Quero and Sanju Pradhan threatened but were unable to break the deadlock. Chennai could have added a second late in the game, against the run of play, but were denied by some brave last-ditch defending from the Pune-based outfit.

Shivajians scored in the second of eight minutes of stoppage time. McFaul showed excellent control in the box and unleashed a precise shot to the bottom corner. Shivajians sit at seventh with 11 points while Chennai are placed ninth in the table with nine points on the board.
