A Spanish restaurant in Bembibre was duped by a large group of diners who fled the place without paying the bill, BBC reported on Thursday. Around 120 Romanian diners who had booked Hotel Carmen for a baptism celebration left the place before dessert was served.
“It happened in the space of a minute,” said Antonio Rodriguez, the owner of the establishment. “It was something they had planned and they left in a stampede.” They had starters, main course and 30 bottles of alcohol before fleeing the restaurant. The group had paid €900 (around Rs 63,229) as deposit, however, they owe the restaurant €2,000 (around Rs 1.4 lakh) more. Rodriguez has shared the details about the reservation with the local police, however, he said he had little hope of getting the money.
