Teams playing in the final of the Pakistan Super League at Lahore will be accorded five-tier security, Dawn reported.
The Punjab provincial government in a meeting on Monday decided that the teams will be provided a security cover usually reserved for heads of states.
According to the report, VVIPs are usually offered three-tier security cover, but an exception will be made for the players and team staff, while they travel to and from the stadium.
The match will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on March 5.
Incidentally, the Gaddafi Stadium is the same venue outside which a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in 2009 by gunmen while they were heading to the stadium from their hotel. Six players were wounded during the incident, while six security personnel and two civilians were killed.
Among other security arrangements, spectators will be required to provide their National Identity cards in addition to their tickets.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Electric Supply Company has also announced that the coty will be exempted from loadshedding on the day of the final, the report stated.
