Indian shooters Jitu Rai and Amanpreet Singh clinched gold and silver medals at the 50 metre Pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation’s World Cup in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Rai shot a world record score of 230.1 to finish on top, a brilliant comeback after he initially languished at the bottom in the beginning of the final. He was on the verge of elimination when he cut his deficit of 4.2 points with his last six shots to come out on top.

Singh shot a total of 226.9 and finished second in the shoot-off for top spot. Singh had scored 561 points and Rai 559 points in the qualifying round.

This was Rai’s second medal in two days, after he won the bronze medal in the 10 metre Air Pistol final on Sunday. He also won gold in the mixed team event with Heena Sidhu. India have now won five medals at the World Cup.
