The proposal for converting the mayor’s bungalow at Mumbai’s Dadar area into late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray memorial got approved by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Monday, city Mayor Snehal Ambekar told ANI. The 11,500 sq metre property will be handed over to a trust that will maintain the memorial.
The trust will comprise members selected by the Shiv Sena, which had submitted a list to the state government in September 2016. Party President Uddhav Thackeray and son Aaditya will be lifetime trustees. The trust will pay Re 1 as rent for the plot anually.
The trust would, however, need permission from the heritage committee to make any changes to the bungalow because the bungalow is a listed heritage structure, an unidentified official told The Times of India. The civic improvements committee had given its approval on January 11.
