India’s Mohamed Hussamuddin was narrowly defeated in the final of the Strandja memorial tournament at Sofia, Bulgaria on Monday. Hussamuddin was beaten by Ukraine’s Mykola Butsenko 2-3 in the Bantamweight 56 kg event.
India finished the event with three medals. Amit Panghal received a bronze medal in the 49 kg event. Meena Kumari Maisnam also walked away with a bronze in the 54 kg women’s draw. India had sent a 15-member team for the 68th edition of the Strandja memorial tournament, which comprised of 10 men and five women. Over 200 boxers from 31 countries participated in the event.
Panghal was defeated by Bulgaria’s Tinko Banabakov in his semi-final match. Maisnam lost her last-four bout against local favourite Stanimira Petrova.
