Former People’s Democratic Party legislator Tarid Hameed Karra joined the Congress on Saturday, PTI reported. Karra had resigned from the party and Parliament in September 2016, over his dissatisfaction with the PDP-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. He had said, “The PDP has become a collaborator for fascist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-governed BJP.”
Karra, a founding member of the PDP, had been unhappy about reports of security forces in the state using force against civilians. Several civilians had died in the months after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani. Wani was killed in July 2016. However, Karra had also voiced his resentment against the PDP-BJP alliance even before the unrest in the Valley after Wani’s death.
