India will host Uzbekistan in April at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association at Bengaluru for their next Asia Oceania group I Davis Cup tie, PTI reported.
In previous head-to-head meetings, India and Uzbekistan are locked 2-2. Uzbekistan emerged victorious at home in April 2012, winning the tie 3-2.
India last played on the Bengaluru hard courts in September 2014, when the hosts lost 2-3 to Serbia. India enter the tie on back of a comfortable 4-1 win over New Zealand in the first round tie in Pune earlier in the month. In the same round Uzbekistan beat South Korea 3-1 at Tashkent.
The tie will also mark Mahesh Bhupathi’s debut as India’s non-playing captain, succeeding Anand Amritraj. The team for the second round games will be announced in the first week of March.
The winner of the India-Uzbekistan tie will progress to the World Group playoffs, to be held in September.
