India’s Vijender Singh, after successfully defending the WBO Asia Pacific title, will be gunning for a second belt when he faces WBO Oriental middleweight champion Zulpikar Maimaitiali of China in Mumbai on April 1, PTI reported.
The winner of the bout will hold two belts. Vijender successfully defended his title against vastly experienced Tanzanian Francis Cheka in December last year. The Olympic bronze-medallist has had a dream run in the Pro Boxing circuit, winning each of his eight fights so far. Seven of his wins came through a knockout.
Maimaitiali, like Vijender, made his professional debut in 2015 and has recorded five knockout wins. The Chinese No.1 landed the Oriental title last year by beating Tanzania’s Thomas Mashali via a technical knockout.
The report added that the double Asian Fight card will feature former Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Akhil Kumar and former Asian Championships bronze-medallist Jitender Kumar.
