At least two people were killed in a suicide bomb attack in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area in Pakistan on Wednesday, reported Dawn. The attack was targeted at civil judge Asif Jadoonwho, who was travelling in a car when a motorcycle hit the vehicle and the man riding it blew himself up. The driver of Jadoonwho’s car died in the incident, while the judge suffered injuries.
More than 10 people were injured in the incident that took place on a day government officials were supposed to inaugurate the Out Patient Department Hayatabad Medical Complex. Several senior political leaders, including Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, were expected to attend the event.
This was the second suicide bomb attack against government officials in the country on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, at least five people were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a government office in Ghalanai near Afghanistan border.
A Pakistani Taliban group, Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, has claimed responsibility for the morning’s attack. The group said they had also carried out the attack in Lahore on Monday that killed at least 13 people, reported Reuters. The group said Monday’s attack was the beginning of their new campaign against the Nawaz Sharif government and its officials.
