Leander Paes and his new partner, Brazilian Andre Sa ousted top seeds Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi in the ASB Classic in Auckland on Wednesday, PTI reported. The unseeded Indo-Brazilian pair won 7-6(3), 6-3 to progress to the quarter-finals.
This was Paes and Sa’s first victory after joining hands in late 2016; they were knocked out of the first round of the Chennai Open by Purav Raja and Divij Sharan. The game lasted one hour and 14 minutes and the Paes-Sa pair broke their opponents’ serve twice while losing theirs once.
Paes and Sa will now face Marcus Daniell and Marcelo Deloliner in the last eight.
