Hollywood musical La La Land continued to dominate the award season, getting as many as 11 nominations at the British Academy Film Awards on Tuesday. The musical, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, had won a record seven awards at the Golden Globes. Science fiction film Arrival and crime thriller Nocturnal Animals bagged nine nominations each, while Manchester By The Sea, which got Casey Affleck the Best Actor Award (Drama) at the Golden Globes, received six nominations.
Those in the running for the Best Actor at the Baftas are Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea), Ryan Gosling (La La Land), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nocturnal Animals) and Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic). Amy Adams (Arrival), Emma Stone (La La Land), Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins), Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train) and Natalie Portman (Jackie) are in the race for Best Actress.
American Honey earned a nomination for outstanding British Film and Doctor Strange has been nominated in the visual effects category and production design. Moonlight, which won the Best Picture (Drama) at the Globes, has earned four Bafta nominations alongside Florence Foster Jenkins, which stars Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.
The award ceremony will be held on February 12 and is going to be hosted by Stephen Fry.
