Lionel Messi’s last-minute free-kick helped Barcelona salvage a 1-1 draw against Villarreal in a La Liga encounter on Sunday.

Villarreal took the lead four minutes into the second half through Nicola Sansone. Barca, though, failed to bring back parity for much of the second period despite a few close chances. They also had a penalty denied after a Messi shot was handled by Villarreal’s Bruno.

Barcelona had to wait until the dying minutes of the game to level the scores as Messi converted from the set-piece, finding the top-corner.

Here’s a compilation of Messi’s other brilliant set-pieces.

Olivier Giroud’s last-minute strike

It was a weekend of last-gasp goals. Before Messi’s 90-minute strike, it was Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud who had scored late to rescue his side in an FA Cup third round clash against Preston North End.

Days after netting a late equaliser in a 3-3 comeback draw at Bournemouth, Giroud scored an 89th-minute winner to spare Arsenal the blushes.
