Six people were killed after a fire broke out at a bakery in Pune’s Kondhwa area early on Friday morning. Six employees had been sleeping inside the shop and died of suffocation as the only exit was bolted from the outside, reported NDTV.
The police have arrested three people who had started the bakery. The fire broke out at a “Bakes and Cakes” outlet. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, but initial investigations suggest that a short circuit might have set it off, reported DNA. Local administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Pune Mayor Prashant Jagtap said, “The bakery owner had locked his shop from outside as a result of which the employees of the bakery could not rush out when fire broke out.” The owner reportedly reached the bakery to open the shop, by which time the six employees had died.
