Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medal winner Mary Kom was honoured with the first ever International Boxing Federation Legends award in Montreux, Switzerland. Asian Games gold medalist Vikas Krishan also shone with the AIBA Pro Boxing best boxer trophy.
AIBA launched the legends programme this year to mark its 70th anniversary. Boxing Federation of India president, Ajay Singh, who was present with the Indian contingent at the event lauded the victors, “Its an honour for the whole country that our boxers Mary Kom and Vikas Krishan have been awarded at this global stage of AIBA,” he said.
On Tuesday, AIBA had unanimously voted for the Boxing Federation of India to be inducted as a permanent member after a gap of four years. The decision was taken after an Extraordinary Congress meet.
