Former Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil was announced as the coach of Aizawl FC on Tuesday for the upcoming I-League season.
Jamil spent seven years as the coach of Mumbai, earning plenty of praise for keeping the club in the top half of the table despite limited resources at his disposal. The 39-year-old, who was capped seven times by India during his playing days, recently obtained his AFC Pro Coaching licence. Jamil’s club career saw him being involved with Air India and Mahindra United.
The Mizoram-based Aizawl FC will only be playing their second season in the I-League. The club finished eighth in their debut season and finished runners-up in the Federation Cup. In the summer, Mumbai announced that they were parting ways with Jamil, whose tenure with his former club was the longest any coach has had with an Indian club in the top division.
