The Amethi police have arrested one of the three accused in connection with the gangrape of a girl who died in hospital during treatment on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday evening in Nagardih village. The police said they were looking for the other accused.
The girl was reportedly watering the fields when three men attacked her. The girl’s family has lodged a formal complaint against the men at Piparpur police station. The girl’s statement was recorded by a magistrate at the hospital before she died.
The police have registered a First information Report against three people after residents of the village protested against alleged inaction on the part of the administration. Superintendent of Police (Amethi) SK Singh told PTI that investigators would look at the girl’s statement after they get the postmortem report.
