Goals were aplenty across the European football leagues on Sunday. Manchester City found their feet and stunned Arsenal 2-1, while Barcelona smashed four goals against an outclassed Espanyol side. Bayern Munich made amends and reached top spot with a Douglas Costa stunner. It was a night of brilliant football to say the least.

A Messi show

It was a football masterclass delivered by Lionel Messi who cut the Espanyol defence into half as Barcelona scored four goals. Luis Suarez scored a brace, while Jordi Alba and Messi netted one apiece. Espanyol could manage to net only one goal at Nou Camp.

Real Madrid win Club World Cup

Real Madrid beat Japan’s Kashima Antlers 4-2 in extra time to win the Fifa Club World Cup. It was a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick that powered Real to victory. Kashima led through Gaku Shibasaki’s brace, but Ronaldo and Karim Benzema powered the Spanish side for yet another trophy.

Arsenal fall, City rise

Manchester City fought back from being a goal down to beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad. With the win, City took second spot in the Premier League table. The Gunners took the lead through Theo Walcott’s strike, but Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling pulled it back for City in a dominating display in the second half.

Tottenham on target

Tottenham Hotspur beat Burnley 2-1 in their Premier League clash on Sunday. Burnley got the early lead owing to a stunning goal by Ashley Barnes. However, Danny Rose and Dele Alli scored for the Spurs to take them to fifth place in the table, only one point behind rivals Arsenal.

Costa powers Bayern Munich

Douglas Costa’s outstanding goal powered Bayern Munich to the top of the Bundesliga table against Darmstadt on Sunday. Bayern are ahead on goal difference before Wednesday’s meeting with title rivals RB Leipzig. Costa’s 25-yard left-footed shot sent Darmstadt to a seventh straight defeat and bottom of the table.
