The Delhi Police on Friday arrested a man for raping a 20-year-old woman in a moving car in the national capital’s Moti Bagh area. The vehicle, which is reportedly owned by a head constable of the Central Industrial Security Force, was being driven by the official’s personal driver. Investigators have confiscated the car.
The woman is a resident of Noida and had come to Delhi to look for a job. The man assaulted her on the pretext of giving her a lift from a bus stop in the area, officials said. After the woman managed to escape from the accused, a road patrol car spotted her. She later narrated the incident to him. She was sent to the hospital for medical examination immediately, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh said.
The police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Singh told ANI that they will seek a trial in a fast track court.
The incident comes exactly four years after six men gangraped a 23-year-old paramedical student on a moving bus in the national capital. She succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012 The incident led to massive protests both in India and abroad, along with demands for stricter laws on crimes against women and sexual assault.
The mother of the woman who was gangraped in 2012 said, “It has been four years and we have still not got justice even after struggling. Even today same things happen, there is no fear of law.”
