The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed Justice Markandey Katju’s plea seeking that a Parliament resolution against him be quashed. Last year, the former Supreme Court judge, on his blog, had called Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose “British” and “Japanese agents” respectively.
The apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur, said the plea was being dismissed on merit, reported PTI. “We have held that the plea is maintainable. We have dismissed the plea on merit,” said the bench.
On June 29, Katju had moved the apex court seeking quashing of resolutions passed against him by both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. His plea had alleged that both the Houses of the Parliament “lacked the competence” to condemn him, PTI reported.
