Obscene messages found on the walls of the ladies’ bathrooms at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday has caused a furore about security measures for women athletes, reported the Times of India.
A printed message, pasted in four places in the restroom, asked woman athletes to masturbate before practice. They first came to notice on Saturday. However, a few senior girls who saw it on Monday told coaches and officials, according to the report.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, an athlete told Times of India, “On Monday, some of the younger athletes were seen asking others to refrain from using the restroom as there was something ‘bad’ there. I went there out of curiosity and was shocked to see the message, signed by ‘Sports Authority’. It is so disturbing and humiliating that somebody could enter the ladies’ restroom and spend time pasting those messages without being noticed.”
After an inspection, it was found that only the ladies’ bathrooms had been targeted, leading to question marks about security measures at the stadiums. According to The News Minute, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports has launched a probe into the incident.
