British pop singer Adele has toppled a toddler. In 2015, the most watched video featured six-year-old Heaven King dancing better than any adult could. At 138 million views and counting, Adele’s appearance in talk show host James Corden’s web series Carpool Karaoke was the biggest viral video of the year. YouTube’s top 10 most viral videos for 2016 have 550 million views and counting. Collectively, they were watched for a total of a 25 million hours. That totals 20 years of watch time. Other videos on the list include: absurd musical sensation Pen, Pen Pineapple Pen, the virtuoso ukulele playing of of 12-year-old Grace Vanderwaal, and filmmaker Casey Neistat explaining what a $21,000 first class plane seat offers.
But the views for Corden’s video pales in comparison to the most viewed music video of the year. American band Fifth Harmony’s video for the song Work From Home was viewed close to 1.1 billion times.
A hundred million tuned in to see actor-turned-politician-turned-actor-again Arnold Schwarzenegger bust out his action moves to make the advertisement below the biggest one of 2016.
For a full compilation of what exactly happened in online videos of the last year, there’s always the YouTube Rewind video which has everything from Pokemon Go to the mannequin challenge. It could also be a test to see if you are advancing in the years and cannot make head or tales of what is actually going on in the world of memes and internet challenges. There’s a blink-and-you-will-miss-it appearance by Mumbai-based comedy group All India Bakchod.
