An accused in the Bihar topper scam, Diwakar Prasad, was found dead in front of his Panchwati Nagar home on Thursday, The Telegraph reported. His son, Vicky, has claimed that Kotwali Police personnel had pushed him off the roof, but the officers dismissed the allegation saying the 50-year-old had jumped off the building after seeing the police coming to arrest him.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaaj said a case has been registered at the Bahardurpur Police Station against the team led by Sub-Inspector Devkant, who had gone to arrest Prasad. The case was lodged based on a complaint filed by Prasad’s relatives.
“Action will be initiated against the police personnel if the allegations are found to be true,” Maharaaj told The Telegraph. He added that they will examine CCTV footage from buildings near the site where Prasad was found.
The Bihar topper scam accused owned a printing press in Patna, which was raided in connection with the case. A few stacks of answer sheets were confiscated from the premises.
The Rs 8-crore Bihar School Examination Board tender scam surfaced after news channels aired interviews with examination toppers, whose incorrect answers to questions related to their subjects exposed a nexus of corruption. The education board had cancelled the results of arts topper Ruby Rai and science topper Saurabh Sresth and asked all 14 top-scorers to appear for a re-test.
