India’s Parupalli Kashyap reached the second round of the men’s singles competition at the Korea Masters Grand Prix Gold on Tuesday.
The Commonwealth Games champion booked his place in the next round after his rival Kang Min Woo pulled out of the tournament. He will now face fourth seed Wang Tzu Wei of Korea.
A former top 10 player, Kashyap had suffered multiple injuries in the run-up to the Rio Olympics and eventually could not fly to Brazil. Kashyap also participated in the London Olympics 2012, losing in the quarters to eventual gold medal winner Lin Dan. His quarterfinal finish was the highest for an Indian male shuttler at the Olympics until it was matched by Kidambi Srikanth this year.
