Former Indian footballer C Jabir, who died in a road accident, was laid to rest with state honours in Areacode on Monday. Jabir was killed in a road accident at Musliarangadi near Kondotty in Malappuram on Sunday. The car driven by Jabir collided with a lorry on the Kozhikode-Palakkad national highway around 10.30 pm. He was taken to a private hospital soon after, but the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Former footballers IM Vijayan, U Sharafali, CV Pappachan, Kurikesh Mathew and coach TK Chathunni and various other players attended the funeral. Jabir was as a Circle Inspector at the MSP camp in Pandikkad.

He made his debut in the Indian team in 1995 along with Bhaichung Bhutia. He was a constant figure in the Kerala Police team and had represented the state six times in Santosh Trophy. He won the Federation Cup final in 1990, and also the National Games gold medal in 1997. He is survived by his wife Naseera and children Fida, Rinda and Fahad.
