Delhi Lieutenant-General Najeeb Jung on Monday said that steps taken to control air pollution in the Capital have resulted in improved ambient air quality in the city, ANI reported. He said that around 43,050 vehicles were checked at the borders of the city, and 8,855 of them were not allowed to enter the Capital.
Jung chaired the fourth meeting to review air pollution in Delhi on Monday. The quality of air in the city had deteriorated after Diwali celebrations, after which schools had to be shut for three days in November. The Supreme Court on November 25 had also banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region because of growing pollution. The National Green Tribunal had declared an environmental emergency in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and had recommended measures to help curb air pollution in these states.
