In May 2015, Myanmar’s refugee crises came under the spotlight when thousands of Rohingya people were found stranded on boats in the Bay of Bengal. Since then, there has been international pressure on Myanmar and neighbouring countries to help the Rohingya refugees.
But not many know that the Rohingya Muslims are not the only ones being persecuted. Another ethnic minority is the Christian Chin, whose members have been forced to convert to Buddhism, Myanmar’s predominant religion.
A few families have escaped the persecution and come to India to seek asylum. With no proper documents, the young members of the family have no option to study. But this video shows how a young girl named Emma Nei Mawi is trying to make her life positive, one hip-hop move at a time.
